What inspired you to become a psychologist?

I knew I wanted to be a psychologist from the minute I learned a job like that existed; around when I was 8 or 9 years old. The idea that I could help someone just by listening to them and trying to understand was mind-blowing to me at the time. Of course, many years and degrees later, I've learned that it's a bit more complicated than that, but the core goal remains the same. I have always been very curious about why people do what they do, and how to relate to others to make them feel heard and connected.
